Description and process

The Healthy Regions project is an “action research” project, and is therefore highly process oriented and pragmatic in its approach. The main objective of the project is to develop different practical tools, within an overall concept for “Healthy Regions”. The tools will are tested within the participating regions, in order to gain practical experiences. The documentation of the practical experiences that each region gain through the testing of the tools, and the implementation of the project, is a very important part of the project results, as the documentation is be used to illustrate the degree and the scope of usefulness of the tools.
The project runs over a period of 3 years (2007 – 2010) where the first period of the project is used to develop methods, tools and concepts to assist regions to put health on the political agenda. In the second phase of the project, the participating regions test the methods, tools and concepts in order to lead their regions in a direction, where health become a more important and strategic aspect within the regional development. Based on the testing phase, the third and last phase of the project is a “conceptualization phase” where good practice and practical experiences are gathered and documented in order to inspire other regions around Europe to use the results from the Healthy Regions project.
